AHAVA (LOVE), 1977
Corten steel
In 1977-1978, the American artist, Robert Indiana (b. 1928), created a 13-foot-tall steel sculpture in the spirit of international brotherhood to the people of Israel. The work, using the four letters of the Hebrew word ahava (love), is based on his well-known word-sculpture "LOVE".
The work is a gift of Dr. and Mrs. Raymond Sackler to the Museum and stands in its seven-acre Billy Rose Sculpture Garden. Designed by the eminent landscape architect-sculptor Isamu Noguchi, it is considered to be one of the most outstanding art gardens in the world.
