This silver tetradrachm of Rhodes was struck in the 4th century BCE. On the obverse side of the coin is the head of Helios, the Greek sun-god. The reverse side bears the inscription "Rhodes" in Greek and the emblem of Rhodes, the rose. The name of the city is derived from the Phoenecian name vered (rose).
