Studies: 1920-25 Bauhaus School, Weimar, Germany, with Itten, Klee, Kandinsky, Feininger. 1926 studied with Max Doerner. Teaching: Seminar, Bet Hakerem, Jerusalem; 1935 -1952 Bezalel, Jerusalem. 1940-1952 Director, Bezalel, Jerusalem. 1952 - 1963 Supervisor and art advisor for Ministry of Education and Culture, Jerusalem. Prizes: 1954 Unesco Prize. 1963 Israel Prize;1988 Boris Schatz Prize; 1992 Isracard Prize, Museum of Art, Tel Aviv. 1965 Lived in Paris and Jerusalem. 1954, 1958, 1968 Participated in Venice Biennale. 1974 Doctor of Honor, Hebrew University, Jerusalem. Died 1992, Jerusalem.
