This gorgeous challah cover will add a touch of color and distinction to your Sabbath table! It is written that the Sabbath is zecher lema'aseh breishit (a memorial to the act of Creation). Here, a beautifully stylized series of the first six days of Creation surrounds the words Shabbat and Vaychulu HaShamayim VeHaAretz VeChol Tzeva'am (and the heavens and the Earth and all their multitudes were completed) in Hebrew. The motifs are outlined in gold or black and hand-painted on silk with unique colors using a brush. The fabric undergoes a fixation process to make it color-fast. This will be a treasured centerpiece in anyone's Sabbath home!
Artist Yair Emanuel, a graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, lives and works in Jerusalem. Vivid and harmonious colors as well as a mixture of the old and the new characterize Emanuel's work, which is designed and crafted in his Jerusalem studio. The principal techniques utilized encompass painting on silk, hand-embroidery, raw-silk applique and painting on wood.
