Raw Silk

Size: 80" x 80" / 200 x 200 cm

The most important day in your life can be transformed into an unforgettable event for everyone present with this stunning huppah (wedding canopy).  In Judaism, the chuppah canopy at a Jewish wedding is attached to four poles, meant to represent an open home, with 4 walls open on each side. King David writes about the bridegroom leaving his chuppah in Psalms 19:6.

Featuring golden raw silk with a wheat and pomegranate motif, it is etched with the Hebrew words Sameach tesamach re'im ha'ahuvim kesamechacha yetzircha began eden mikedem (Make these beloved partners joyful, just as You made your creations joyful in the Garden of Eden in the beginning) around the center.  Designs in raw silk are appliqued and attached with embroidery. Perfect gift for an engaged couple to use for their wedding ceremony!

Artist Yair Emanuel, a graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, lives and works in Jerusalem.  Vivid and harmonious colors as well as a mixture of the old and the new characterize Emanuel's work, which is designed and crafted in his Jerusalem studio.  The principal techniques utilized encompass painting on silk, hand-embroidery, raw-silk applique and painting on wood.
