A lively, thoughtful, and visually rich look at Israeli culture in 1965 the year the Israel Museum opened. 1965 Today, produced in conjunction with a major 50th Anniversary exhibition, presents works created in 1965 by 45 Israeli artists; documentation of art events worldwide; local newsreels and home movies; and a taste of Israeli fashion and everyday objects at the time.

Filled with archival photographs, images of the artworks, and installation shots from the exhibition, the book includes the story of the Israel Museum’s founding told by Director James Snyder; an evocative piece by journalist Ari Shavit recalling how Israel felt in 1965; an essay on the exhibition and its art by curator Aya Miron; and a range of curatorial texts discussing the featured Israeli artists as well as concurrent international art developments, local film testimony, and the period’s aesthetic.
