Their pillared designs enclose shining holders with cut-out Hebrew phrases which read borei minei besamim - creator of fragranced things - and borei me'orei ha'esh - creator of firelight (these words are taken from the traditional blessings made over these ritual items during the havdalah ceremony). The spice box has an unusual square design and is topped with a coned "steeple", echoing traditional spice boxes seen in Eastern Europe.
