The mitzvah (commandment for connection) of hanging a mezuzah on your doorposts comes from the Torah in both the first and second paragraphs of the Shema blessing: 

UchTavtam, Al mezuzot beitecha, Uvisha'arecha - Engrave them (the words of the Shema) upon your doorposts and your gates (Numbers 6:9).

"Inscribe them (the words of the Shema) on the doorposts (mezuzot) of your home and on your gates, so your days and your children's days may be prolonged in the land that G-d promised to give your fathers, as days like heaven on earth," (Deuteronomy 11:20-21).
