Mayim Achronim

Mayim Achronim - final waters in English - is the custom of ritually washing the fingertips at the end of a meal at which bread was eaten. Established in Talmudic times, there are two reasons given for this custom: cleansing one's hands before saying God's name in the Grace After Meals blessings, and removing Sodomite salt that may remain on the skin (this particular type of salt was common in previous generations, and the seasoning was corrosive to the eyes). Although leftover salt is no longer a concern, the custom to wash at the end of meals has prevailed. Choose from our extensive array of beautiful Mayim Achronim sets to add to your Shabbat table!
