This marvelous plate is adapted from an 18th century original made in the Netherlands city of Delft in the 18th century, at the height of that city's golden age, when it was the most famous producer of glazed ceramics in the world.
At the center of this plate appears a blue painted Hebrew inscription Kosher for Passover, surrounded by Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread (Exodus 13:6); dots and brushstrokes around border.
Apparently the plate was commissioned from an artist unfamiliar with Hebrew script. The plate has decoration executed with confident strokes and a faltering, inaccurate inscription.
This item comes with a certificate of authenticity of the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. Enclosed is a small description of its historical background in English and Hebrew.
