On the obverse of the amulet is a traditional depiction of the Cave of the Machpelah, with a wall, towers, and houses, and the Hebrew inscription "Cave of the Machpelah." The amulet has a curved border and a loop.
Amulets were intended to guard their owners' families and property from natural disasters, spells, and evil spirits.
