Length of chain: 15.7" / 40 cm
This gorgeous necklace is a truly stunning and beautiful piece of history that will add a welcome spark to any ensemble! The large sterling silver and Roman glass pendant hangs from a lovely double sterling silver wire chain.
This piece is based on a sundial found at Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. The original sundial is etched with gradations around a hole, which most likely held a vertical post. The post cast a shadow, dividing the hours of the day and night according to the seasons.
The shards of glass inlaid in this piece originate from fragments of glass vessels discovered in Israel, in the vicinity of the Mediterranean Sea shore.
Note: To preserve patina do not allow glass to come in contact with water.
This item comes with a certificate of authenticity from the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. Enclosed is a short description of its historical background in English and Hebrew.
