Aptly entitled Le Poisson du Bonheur - the fish of happiness - this piece shows a young woman holding a posy of flowers. In the background lies a collection of houses whose roofs are reminiscent of those in Jerusalem; and a scaled fish sits atop her head. Created in just the three primary colors (red, blue and yellow), this piece epitomizes the artist's passion for neo-primitive art and abstract patterns.
Samy Briss was born to a Jewish family in Romania in 1930, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest before traversing Europe and settling in Israel in 1960. He now lives and works in Paris, painting fabulous and unusual pieces which are surrealist and neo-primitive in style, and nostalgic and symbolic to look at. His work has been displayed across the world in Israel, the USA, and in major European countries including Belgium, Holland, Germany, France and Switzerland.
